A designer and builder of "Dietrich Bollée" cars and a partner of Mathis and Bugatti, Baron Adrien de Turckheim took part in a number of car rallies in Europe between 1896 and 1905.

In one of his journeys by car in 1903, Adrien de Turckheim took the road through Sion, Martigny and Sembrancher and reached as far as Verbier.
